23 Mar 2003 John Leonard reviews book Regarding the Pain of Others by Susan Sontag; drawing (M)
I didn't say anything then, and people got hurt because of it. Now Sarah's parents are publishing a book about her, so this might be my last chance to set the record straight . . .
While not incredibly impactful, THAT’S NOT WHAT HAPPENED is a quite meaningful book, relevant in many ways to the current society, and does its job of getting its point across. Three years ago, Leanne Bauer’s best friend, Sarah McHale, was killed in the Virgil County High School mass shooting. Praise for That's Not What Happened:"An original and engrossing narrative about scars, recovery, and how the stories we tell can both sustain and hobble us." -- Publishers Weekly "Echoing highly publicized tragedies, this taut, emotional story goes behind the headlines to reveal lives impacted by school violence." 2018-09-11 · That’s Not What Happened follows Leanne as she tries to bring together all of the survivors personal stories and show who they really are, rather than who the media and community want them to be. Obviously due to the plot this book does contain a lot about religion which can often be controversial and difficult to talk about. The media portrayal of what happened on that fateful day is not quite accurate, but it has become the accepted version of events. Three years down the line, the parents of Sarah, one of the victims (and Lee’s best friend), are intending to publish a book about their daughter and this prompts Lee to contemplate whether now is the time to set the record straight.
While the actor, who took a brief hiatus from the show in 2020 after being diagnosed with COVID-19, seems to have left the soap opera amicably, fans are dying to know: What happened to 2018-09-20 That's Not What Happened is such an incredibly important and unbelievably powerful story, and one I won't forget in a long time. It's a stark reminder that there are real people behind those school shooting survivor interviews, and that while we might think we know who they are, we don't. what has happened will come in present perfect tense.

2018-06-20 Book Review. That’s not what happened by Kody Keplinger . I’ve read quite a few school shooting books recently. Only Child by Rhiannon Navin, This is not where it ends by Marieke Nijkamp, All the Hidden Truths by Clare Askew and Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips (although technically this last one was at a Zoo).. I’m not sure whether this is a response to the huge slew of American school Questions remain about what happened in the moments leading to Khalil’s death, and the only witness is Starr, who must now decide what to say or do, if anything.

Questions remain about what happened in the moments leading to Khalil’s death, and the only witness is Starr, who must now decide what to say or do, if anything. Thomas cuts to the heart of the matter for Starr and for so many like her, laying bare the systemic racism that undergirds her world, and she does so honestly and inescapably, balancing heartbreak and humor.
